Retro Aesthetics + Timeless Texture: Dingxin Decoration at CIFF Showcases the Multifaceted Expression of Metallic Films
From March 28 to 31, the 57th CIFF China International Furniture Fair was held in Guangzhou. Dingxin Decoration showcased its full range of metal film products at the show, with a particular focus on the “Time-Weathered Texture” series of aged-style metal films.
At this exhibition, Dingxin Decoration is showcasing a comprehensive portfolio of metallic films, including high-gloss metallic films, matte metallic films, pearlescent films, brushed silk films, and iridescent metallic films—totaling over a hundred distinct designs—to meet the diverse needs of commercial spaces, luxury residences, hotel interiors, and custom furniture applications.
Among them, the flagship “Time-Weathered Texture” series is the centerpiece of this exhibition. This collection employs a three-step process to achieve a distinctive vintage aesthetic: first, a printing technique is used to replicate the natural patina of rusted metal; second, an aluminum-plating process imparts a soft sheen, setting it apart from the bright, metallic luster of conventional finishes; and finally, a composite embossing technique creates a delicate, raised-and-recessed texture on the film surface, further enhancing the aged, weathered effect. The material boasts a thickness of just 0.15 millimeters, with a supple, flexible texture that allows it to conform seamlessly to a wide range of substrates, including furniture, walls, and paneling, making installation both efficient and straightforward. Currently, the “Time-Weathered Texture” series offers three base colorways—copper green, weathered silver, and antique bronze gold—and extends these into a broader palette of hues, catering to designers’ desire for personalized, vintage-inspired aesthetics.
The Classic Metal Film series upholds the brand’s signature style, offering a diverse range of surface finishes—including silk, brushed, matte, and high-gloss—to suit high-end commercial spaces and hotel interiors. The Pearlescent series, with its elegant and understated texture, has become a bestseller for office environments. Meanwhile, the High-Gloss Chromatic series uses dynamic interplays of color and light to infuse spaces with a rich sense of design. The Brushed and Silk series are two standout offerings in this exhibition. The Brushed series features highly realistic metal textures and hues, making it ideal for elevator cabins, furniture, and any application that calls for metallic decorative effects. The Silk series, on the other hand, employs a composite manufacturing process—surface lamination, internal wire reinforcement, and a PP backing—to deliver a uniquely lightweight texture, soft sheen, and a warm, smooth tactile experience. This series also boasts translucency, making it suitable not only for wall paneling but also for specialty applications such as light boxes and gift packaging.
According to the head of Dingxin Decoration, in recent years, retro and wabi-sabi styles have remained consistently popular in home decoration, with a marked increase in consumer demand for decorative materials that convey a sense of “storytelling.” He stated: “Fashion trends emphasize efficiency; only by staying attuned to these trends can we seize a competitive edge in the market. Dingxin Decoration has closely followed market developments and launched the ‘Time-Imprinted Texture’ series. This series represents our response to the challenge of ‘infusing metallic films with warmth.’ We don’t want decorative films to be mere surface coverings; instead, we aim to use aged, weathered textures to transform the materials themselves into storytellers that bring spaces to life. At the same time, we will continue refining our other style collections and, moving forward, deepen our focus on niche segments to offer designers and consumers an even more diverse range of expressive options.”
During the exhibition, samples from the “Time-Weathered Texture” collection drew large crowds of visitors who stopped to touch them and inquire about the production techniques. Many exhibiting designers noted that this industrially achieved aged-effect finish “not only boasts a rich tactile quality but also ensures consistent performance across batch deliveries.” Meanwhile, the Classic Metal Film series and other collections continued to enjoy steady interest and inquiries.
